This summer, the Foundation continued its popular Legislative Lunch and Learn series with events for Ohio House staff on Aug. 6 and Ohio Senate staff on Aug. 14.
Presented by Foundation Executive Director Angie Lloyd, the sessions provided an opportunity for legislative staff to learn how Ohio’s legal aids can benefit constituents.
Lloyd highlighted resources available for Ohioans with civil legal needs, including Ohio’s legal aids, Ohio Legal Help, and the Ohio Justice Bus.
“People often don’t understand that they have a legal problem,” Lloyd told House staff members. “Access to civil legal help is critical to helping Ohioans live safe, stable, and financially secure lives.”
Thanks to state General Revenue Fund dollars, the Foundation funds a grant program to serve veterans and to address legal issues related to substance use disorders. In 2024, legal aid served 177,195 Ohioans, including 5,974 domestic violence survivors, 3,764 veterans, 20,098 seniors, and 75,112 children.
“The Ohio Legislature funds critical legal work that helps Ohioans meet their full potential,” Lloyd said. “They’ve been a crucial partner in ensuring Ohio’s legal aids have the resources to serve Ohioans.”
