Helenka Marculewicz,executive director of the Greater Dayton Volunteer Lawyers Project, will receive the Distinguished Service Award from Advocates for Basic Legal Equality (ABLE) and Legal Aid of Western Ohio (LAWO). The award will be presented during the organizations’ Access to Justice Gala and Awards Presentation this evening at the Schuster Center in Dayton. Ms. Marculewicz has served as the project’s executive director since its co-founding in 1988 by the Legal Aid Society of Dayton and the Dayton Bar Association as a means for Dayton lawyers to provide quality pro bono legal services. Today over 900 lawyers volunteer for the project. Ms. Marculewicz is also a nationally recognized expert on pro bono programs and has served as president of the National Association of Pro Bono Professionals. She is being honored for “exceptional support of legal services for the poor and disadvantaged.”
