New York’s Appellate Division Court has approved earning ten hours of CLE credit by performing pro bono legal services. The rules of professional conduct for attorneys licensed to practice in New York previously allowed six hours of CLE credit to be earned during each two year reporting period, out of a required 24 hours. The increase is part of an ongoing effort to encourage more attorneys to donate pro bono legal services, led by the Court’s Chief Judge, Jonathan Lippman. Difficult economic circumstances and a poor economy have intensified the need for civil legal representation of low income people.
