The summers between the years of law school are a busy time for students working in summer clerkships, networking, and figuring out their future career goals. Justice for All Summer Clerks, law students funded by the Foundation to work in civil legal services, have an additional learning and networking opportunity in a Summer Clerkship Panel hosted by the Foundation. This year’s panel gave summer clerks the chance to connect with more established legal professionals to make the most of their summer clerkships.
“We’re excited that we’ve been able to host the Summer Clerkship Panel for the third year now,” said Camille Gill, programs and grants counsel at the Foundation. “This is a great opportunity for the clerks to gain valuable insights and connect with attorneys who can understand where they’re at in their legal journeys.”
This year’s summer clerk panelists included Miranda Anandappa, staff attorney at Legal Aid of Southeast and Central Ohio; Russell Hauser, current Justice for All Fellow at The Legal Aid Society of Cleveland; Jack Maib, associate attorney at Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP Cleveland office and former Ohio Justice Bus fellow; and Sachiyo Peterson, partner at Vorys, Sater, Seymour and Pease LLP Columbus office.
One key piece of advice the panelists gave clerks was to take advantage of all the opportunities a summer clerkship offers and recognize that each connection and experience can help carve out a path to a future job.
“Summer clerkships can really give clarity to your career aspirations, so it’s important to use this time to discern the paths you’re eager to pursue and those you might want to avoid,” Maib said.
